Wicked forecast brings warnings

Mandatory evacuations in CA and a major storm producing high winds and coastal flooding along the East Coast.

Severe winter weather battering both the East and West Coasts have faith-based organizations and emergency managers on edge.

Members of All-Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal church are once again facing the possibility of a major calamity. Less than a month since a service of "hope and remembrance" celebrating volunteers and a church ministry following the deadly California mudslides, the church was warning its members Wednesday that anther strong storm could again produce dangerous conditions.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office issued a mandatory evacuation order Thursday for residents living near the Thomas, Sherpa and Whittier fire burn areas. The communities of Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito, Summerland, and Carpinteria are all impacted by the order.

A predicted Atlantic coastal storm Friday and Saturday prompted high wind warnings from Baltimore into New England. According to the National Weather Service in Boston, moderate-major coastal flooding is possible along the New England coast. Heavy rain is possible, forecasters said, with wet snow at higher elevations.

Friday morning, schools were closed in the Baltimore area and commuter rail lines were canceled.

Meanwhile, flooding is still challenging MidWest Communities from Texas to Indiana where water heights are approaching record levels in some locations. At least three people have died and hundreds of homes have been damaged.

While voluntary organizations are beginning evaluations, a team from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance will be deployed in Michigan later this week at the request of the Lake Michigan Presbytery.

In north-central Arkansas, a river bank collapsed Wednesday morning causing a mudslide in Pangburn that damaged five homes according to the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.
