Students returned to Sacramento's City College Friday morning following a shooting the previous afternoon that left one student dead and two others injured.

The incident occurred shortly before 4 PM PDT as at least two the students were leaving an afternoon class. An altercation between four people broke out near a campus parking lot ending when one of the four began shooting. One student was pronounced dead at the scene, another hospitalized with multiple gun shot wounds and the third was not seriously wounded. As of Friday morning, the assailant was still being sought.

Following the incident, the campus was locked down until all of the buildings could be evacuated.

According to the college's Website, counselors from nearby colleges and a police chaplain would supplement the school's staff on the campus Friday.

Located in the Los Rios community, the college of 22,000 students will celebrate 100 years of education next year. It is one of the oldest community colleges in California. The college said the shooting was unprecedented.
