Stabbing on Lone Star campus

At least 14 people stabbed by one suspect

April 9, 2013

At least 14 people have been wounded at Lone Star College’s Cy-Fair campus in Cypress, Texas. The stabbings occurred at 11:20 AM local time.

The incident occurred near and around the school’s Health Science Center and remains an active crime scene, police said.

Deputy Thomas Gilliland, spokesman for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, said one suspect was detained. He said investigators are trying to determine what sparked the stabbings, but they appear to be random.

Alan Bernstein, public affairs director at the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, couldn’t confirm the suspect’s gender, age, the weapon used or if the suspect was a student at the college.

The Cy-Fair campus serves about 19,000 students. It is one of six campuses that make up Lone Star, which touts itself as the fastest growing community college system in the nation.
