3 injured, 1 dead in work shooting

Shooting occurred at Apple Valley Farms plant in Fresno Calif.

FRESNO, Calif. | November 6, 2012

At least three people were injured Tuesday in a shooting at a Fresno, Calif., poultry and meat processing plant, and a gunman killed himself, police said.

A police officer said the lone gunman shot himself to death, the Fresno Bee reported Tuesday.

The incident at the Apple Valley Farms processing plant, which employs about 50 workers, occurred around 8:30 a.m., KMPH-TV, Fresno, reported.

Dan Lynch, Fresno County, Calif., emergency services director, said four people were taken to hospitals from the shooting scene.

Roger Medina, a witness, said he saw the alleged gunman lying on Hedges Avenue, outside the plant, and was informed by a police officer he was dead, the report said.

Another witness, Jesus Davila, said he was outside the plant when an employee from inside ran out and informed him a gunman was in the plant, shooting people.

Davila added the employee said the gunman had just gotten out of jail.

"He said the guy was in nine years, and he was crazy," said Davila.
