Highway shootings worry drivers

IL State Police increase patrols as Chicago area road shootings nearly double

CHICAGO | May 28, 2016

Gang disputes in Chicago are being blamed for an increased number of highway shootings this year.

Leo Schmitz, the head of the IL State Police, says 20 incidents of gun violence has been reported in the region this so far this year, compared to 12 at this time last year.

Recognizing that Memorial Day weekend last year saw a substantial increase in shootings, city and state police announced that they will be increasing patrols throughout the region.
