Explosion involves 27 vehicles on I-16 in GA

MONTROSE, GA | February 6, 2013


At least three people were killed and at least four more were injured in an early morning truck explosion on Interstate 16 in central Georgia Wednesday morning. At least 27 vehicles were involved in the accident.

A spokesman for the Georgia State Police said the highway will be closed much of the day. According to the state police, the incident involved four separate accidents that combined into a fiery pileup.

According to WGXA-TV, the Fairview Hospital in nearby Dublin, GA, declared a State of Emergency to care for survivors. Multiple fire area fire companies were on the scene helping the injured and extinguishing the flames from at least six vehicles.
