Firefighters said they have partially contained the wildfire that wiped a tiny town off the map in southwest North Dakota.
Bucyrus, N.D., population 27, was overrun by flames Wednesday afternoon. Residents evacuated and no one was injured, but property in the town was a total loss. The cause of the fire is unknown and firefighters were battling wind gusts up to 70 mph as they tried to prevent the blaze from reaching nearby Hettinger, N.D., the county seat of Adams County, The Bismarck Tribune reported Thursday.
The wildfire continued to burn, but by midday Wednesday firefighters said they thought they had prevented it from reaching the larger town.
