Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. recalls bicycles with risky front forks

Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. is recalling 12,000 bicycles with risky front forks the California firm imported from China, a watchdog agency said.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the firm, based in Morgan Hill, had received four reports of front fork failures resulting in various injuries, including facial fractures.

The recall involves Globe Elite, Globe Sport, Globe Sport Disc, Globe Centrum Comp, Globe Centrum Elite, Globe City 6, Globe Vienna 3, Globe Vienna 3 Disc, Globe Vienna 4, Globe Vienna Deluxe 3, Globe Vienna Deluxe 4, Globe Vienna Deluxe 5 and Globe Vienna Deluxe 6 bicycles, the commission said.

The bicycles were sold from July 2007 through July 2012 for between $550 and $1,100.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled bicycles and contact an authorized retailer for free installation of a free replacement front fork.
