5 killed, 3.340 evacuated because of heavy rain

NANCHANG, China | June 11, 2012

Torrential rains across China's eastern Jiangxi, Hunan and Guizhou provinces since Friday have affected nearly 300,000 people, authorities said Monday.

The rains have affected 296,000 people, killing five and forcing the evacuation and forced the evacuations of 3,340 as of Monday, Xinhua reported.

The provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said rain storms would probably continue to hit Jiangxi for the next two days.

The national government has sent out relief teams to rain-hit provinces as torrential rains inundated Hunan and Guizhou provinces during the weekend.
