Fire threatens homes in Oklahoma

Grass fires keep firefighters busy, investigate if Oklahoma City church fire was related to a grass fire or arson.

OKLAHOMA CITY | March 6, 2009

A large grass fire threatened an Edmund, Okla. neighborhood on Friday. Oklahoma and many of its surrounding states have been under red flag warnings for much of the last month. Authorities said the risk for fire has been high with lower than normal humidity and high winds.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 12:30 p.m. Friday, but planned to stay at the scene in case the fire reignited.

A northeast Oklahoma City AME Zion Church was damaged by fire Friday. Authorities on the scene said they were not sure if the church fire was part of a larger grass fire nearby, or was individually set. A team was on the scene investigating the blaze Friday.
