Wildfires force evacuations in OK

No injuries, but home destroyed as wildfire warnings posted in OK, TX

CRESCENT, OK | February 1, 2009

A grassfire that, at its peak, was reported to be four miles wide and four miles long destroyed one home and forced other evacuations Saturday in Logan County near the town of Crescent.

Nine other fires were reported in western Oklahoma. The largest fire burned more than 10,000 acres in Woodward County near Selman.

The Texas Forest Service warned residents Sunday that grasses and trees, are expected to remain critically dry through February. Outdoor burn bans have been posted in 158 Texas counties. During the past week, firefighters have responded to 163 wildfires across the state.
