Colombia volcano forces mass exodus

8,000 people told to leave as eruption occurs.

BALTIMORE | January 18, 2008

The eruption of a volcano in southwestern Colombia forced the evacuation Thursday night of as many as 8,000 nearby residents.

Officials were warning the Galeras Volcano, one of the most active in Colombia, could spread ash over a wide area.
