Parts of north Texas received as much as two to three inches of rain in one hour Sunday evening, prompting flash flooding in several counties. Officials reported two deaths so far, one in Sherman and one in Haltom City.
Families in one Haltom City mobile home park were forced onto their roofs as a nearby creek quickly flooded its banks. As many as 100 homes there took in water. Several swift water rescues had to be made and one young girl was swept away when a rescue boat capsized.
High water rescues continued Monday in Sherman and Gainesville. More than 300 people are in shelters.
Areas around Ft. Worth and Dallas, Texas, received between four and six inches of rain overnight Sunday and into Monday morning. Some areas have received eight inches of rain since midnight.
The same line of storms knocked out power to at least 300,000 homes in the region. The rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day Monday.
