Flooding and tornadoes caused by severe storms are being blamed for two deaths in Texas.

Some parts of eastern Texas have reported receiving between eight and 10 inches of rain in just over 24 hours as a major storm system moved over the region. Two women were found dead in an SUV on a flooded Houston street Monday morning.

Other areas received between two and four inches of rain in a short period of time, flooding streets and stranding motorists. The severe weather also caused two suspected tornadoes in Magnolia Beach and China, Texas.

Damage is still being assessed, yet some early reports show 20 homes with damage in Calhoun County's Magnolia Beach.

Many schools in Houston called off classes for Monday due to the flooding and power outages. The heavy rain is expected to continue into Monday evening.

Tornado and flood warnings are still posted for much of eastern Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi as the storm moves east.
