Hawaii residents are bracing for a Tropical Storm Daniel, which could make landfall later this week.

The storm isn't likely to strengthen into a hurricane, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

Daniel - the first named storm of the season to enter Hawaiian waters - is likely to veer to the south of Oahu. Residents could see the effects from Thursday night through midday Saturday.

Hawaii's Big Island could see up to 10 inches of rain and 60-mph wind gusts.

Church World Service and other faith-based groups have offered support to Hawaii residents in establishing a long-term recovery committee, which has been helping residents recover from past flood damage. The long-term recovery committee also has a role in helping people prepare.
