A three-story building exploded, collapsed and burned in New York City Monday morning.

Emergency officials believe no terrorism is involved, and early reports indicated officials believe the cause was a faulty gas line.

The building housed mostly residential dwellings, as well as two medical offices. Rescue crews were searching the rubble.

It was unknown how many people may have been in the building when the explosion occurred. Firefighters were transporting injured people from the scene.

Thick smoke was billowing up from the site.

The building is located in the city's Upper East Side, between Park and Madison avenues, a few blocks from Central Park.

The blast shattered windows in adjacent buildings.
