The remnants of Tropical Storm Alberto spawned tornadoes that hit South Carolina on Wednesday, killing at least one person.

At least six tornadoes touched down in South Carolina, one in downtown Charleston. Forty-mph winds knocked down power lines and trees, and several counties were under flood warnings.

Parts of Virginia and Maryland could still see five inches of rain. North Carolina has already seen five inches of rain, and downtown Raleigh reported street flooding.

The threat of tornadoes continued through Wednesday evening.
