Storms damage Carolinas

At least 13 homes were destroyed in Clarendon County, S.C., when tornadoes ripped through the area over the weekend.

At least 13 homes were destroyed in Clarendon County, S.C., when tornadoes ripped through the area over the weekend. Fifteen additional homes were damaged.

Most of the homes were outside the neighborhood of Manning, just west of Interstate 95, according to Clarendon County emergency management reports.

At least 11 people were injured. No deaths were reported.

Severe storms spawning tornadoes also killed one person in Alabama and injured 13 schoolchildren in Florida on Friday, according to local emergency management reports.

At least 18 homes were damaged or destroyed in the small Alabama town of Belleville, according to state emergency management reports. The Belleville Volunteer Fire Department was destroyed. Belleville is home to about 200 people. Most of the damage was in Conecuh County.

In Florida, 13 children sustained minor injuries when high winds or a tornado tore a roof section from Baker School in Okaloosa County. Several mobile homes were also damaged in the Florida Panhandle area, some 50 miles northeast of Pensacola, according to the National Weather Service.
