Strong earthquake rattles Japan

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan early Friday.

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan early Friday.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the earthquake caused a small tsunami in the town of Ofunato and several other small coastal towns on the Honshu island. Residents in cities as far away as Misawa and Tokyo reported feeling the quake.

There are no reports of damage yet. No tsunami warnings were posted for the region.
