Mudslides temporarily blocked California's main north-south interstate Monday as a line of severe storms move through the region.

Interstate 5 was shut down about 65 miles north of Los Angeles. At least 140,000 people were without power on Monday but power was back for most people by Tuesday.

Mud and debris flowed into some Los Angeles suburbs but caused little residential damage. One death was blamed on the storms.

California could see three inches of rain on Tuesday, and communities north of Los Angeles were at high risk for flash flooding and mudslides since recent brush fires have destroyed vegetation.

Flash flood warnings were posted for Kern and Los Angeles counties.
