The Trinity River Authority has announced an emergency release of water from Lake Livingston Dam, which is 75 miles northeast of Houston.

Residents from the lower Trinity River valley from the dam to where it empties into Galveston Bay - including Liberty and Dayton - were notified.

Personnel from the Liberty County sheriff's office were driving through subdivisions in low-lying neighborhoods along the river, trying to get the word out via bullhorn, said a dispatcher. Temporary shelters were being organized by Liberty County emergency management.

Residents of low-lying homes below the dam could experience flood damage similar to that of Tropical Storm Allison in 2001.
