A downtown Toronto theater that was being demolished collapsed onto a nearby school Monday, killing at least one person and trapping others, according to reports from the city's emergency medical services.
Children were among the injured trapped in the rubble that used to be the Uptown Theatre. Fourteen people were taken to the hospital.
A wall of the seven-story theater collapsed and fell through the Yorkville English Academy, which teaches English as a second language to young adults.
The demolition of 80-year-old theater had been going on for 10 days.
Local officials have already made public statements indicating they will investigate what went wrong.
