A fire in a high-rise building in Chicago's Loop business district trapped workers in deadly smoke Friday evening.

Six people were killed and 10 injured, according to public statements from city officials. All the victims were overcome by smoke.

The building houses the public defender's office, county prosecutors, the secretary of state's office, and other state and local government agencies.

The fire started in a storage room. By Saturday morning, it wasn't clear what caused it.
