Add Lawrence, Kan. to the growing list of towns hit by tornadoes that just don't seem to end.

More hit Kansas and Missouri Thursday night, adding physical damage and emotional trauma to residents' already burdened by Sunday's severe storms.

At least seven tornadoes touched down in Kansas Thursday night.

Lawrence, some 40 miles west of Kansas City, took a direct hit. A tornado touched down about 7:30 in the evening, ripping through homes and apartment buildings.

Areas near Clinton Parkway and Wakarusa had the worst damage, according to preliminary reports from local emergency management officials, who added that at least 40 homes were damaged in Lawrence.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius declared part of Lawrence a disaster area by Friday morning.
