Dozens of people perished when an explosion tore through Lagos, Nigeria Sunday, according to government reports.

Dozens of people perished when an explosion tore through Lagos, Nigeria Sunday, according to government reports.

The explosion was centered in a three-story residential building in an overcrowded neighborhood in the city's business district. Lagos is home to some 12 million people. The building collapsed and two neighboring buildings were badly damaged.

The cause of the explosion was not known Sunday morning.
